Hi, I’m Josh.
I am an environmental social scientist and communication researcher with over a decade of experience connecting science, advocacy, strategic communication, policy, and public engagement.
I obtained an MSc in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford University, where I later completed a PhD in Geography and the Environment. I just completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at George Mason University's Center for Climate Change Communication, where I helped lead international research on climate and health policy (funded by the Wellcome Trust).
Beyond my academic work, I am deeply interested in storytelling as a tool for effective public engagement and research communication. I've facilitated over 40 storytelling workshops across nine countries—including an online course with Nature—drawing on insights from Hollywood and psychology to help scientists and advocates communicate effectively.
Among a variety of experiences, I've previously worked with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and interned at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where I cultivated my passion for creative ways of engaging the public about societal issues (and brought breakfast sandwiches to extremely funny and talented people).
I am currently based in Brussels, Belgium, where I was recently a visiting researcher with KU Leuven and the Brussels School of Governance. I live here with my wife and wonderfully rambunctious one-year-old daughter.
Please feel free to connect or reach out for collaborations, speaking opportunities, or media inquiries.
